On Creating

Why do we create? Some may arguing that creating is not unique to human beings. There are instances where other animals use tools in order to serve their own purpose. Do these purposes fulfill a utilitarian end goal only? Can animals create art? Creating can be seen only as an artistic venture but why should we limit ourselves to such rigid constraints?

What do individuals create everyday? In our daily lives some people may not see the mundane actions taken on a daily basis as a creative process. Whether it is a simple sandwich with basic ingredients to basic maintenance on a range of item in different categories, in some way, shape, or form, we use our hands to interact with the world around us.

Some individuals make it a conscious choice to create everyday, whether it is by the form of woodworking, culinary art, or even something abstract, there are those that make it a goal to create at least one thing a day. But, how can someone avoid a burn out at that pace? To some, the act of creating may seem intimidating. They say that they are not artistic enough or handy enough in order to manipulate different types of mediums into forms of creation.

If we pay attention, however, we create everyday as a way of life. The people that are conscious to the act of creating are no more skilled than anyone else, and there isn’t one form of creating that is better than the other, despite what different societies might say. Whether it is getting better as honing your skills at culinary ventures to make your mind and body feel better or decorating the interior of your home, these forms of creation are stimulating our urge to manipulate the world around us and can be transformed into fulfilling rituals to make our surroundings more pleasing to ourselves.
